Students’ Perception on the Utilization of Serial Materials in Federal College of Education, Zaria

Abstract

Serial materials are publications that come at regular interval: it could be daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, bi-annually or annually. The utilization of these materials such as newspapers, journals and magazines in private and government organizations cannot be overemphasized because it improves user‘s awareness on current issues around the globe. Therefore, this paper assesses student‘s perception on the utilization of serial materials in F.C.E, Zaria. A Survey research was conducted on a student population of 3,480 in which 10% of the population, that is 348, were sampled using simple random sampling technique for the study. A total of 348 copies of questionnaire were distributed and 348 were duly filled and
returned as response rate. The findings of the study indicate that the college students made use of serial materials occasionally. Majority of the students were fairly satisfied with the serial materials that were available in the library. The paper concludes and recommends that the serial materials should be well disposed towards their usage for effective and efficient patronage while students should be enlightened and encouraged in the use of serial materials for academic and research purposes.
